I met Michelle and Jason this past May at Dorothy & Tom's wedding. Michelle is Dorothy's sister! When her and Jason got engaged they called and hired me for their wedding this March. Michelle and Jason are both so sweet and fun. Their original engagement shoot session was rained out, so we rescheduled for an early morning at Alley Pond Park in Queens, which happened to be the coldest day in a very long time. We braved the 20 degree weather, left with all our fingers and toes intact and got some amazing shots. Congratulations guys! I can't wait to shoot your wedding!

Sara & Josh

I met up with Sara and Josh a couple of weekends ago at Central Park. Sara & Josh traveled down to NYC from Boston for their engagement shoot.

They have a really funny story of how they got together. Here it is in Sara's words:

We went on our first date during the summer of 2004 after we exchanged a few messages on MySpace. We went to see Napoleon Dynamite and got pizza and ice cream in Cambridge. I thought he was cute in a geeky sort of way and thought to myself we'd be better off as friends. As the evening drew to a close, he walked me to my door and gave me an unexpected kiss goodnight. A few weeks later, I developed a horrendous sore throat and was diagnosed with Mononucleosis. I got in touch with Josh (after not speaking to him since the date), and he disclosed that he had Mono not too long ago. Somehow we bonded over our shared symptoms, and over the course of the next year became inseparable (but only as friends, as I had gotten back with my ex-boyfriend). Throughout that time, my grandmother would always ask me why I wasn't dating Josh since I would talk about him more than my then boyfriend. Not long after my ex-boyfriend and I separated for good, I decided to take the plunge from friends to more than friends and told Josh how I felt about him. Luckily he felt the same way and the rest is history!

I got to spend a few hours walking around the park and getting to know them. Despite the fact they said they hate PDA, I did my best to make them kiss in every location! They were good sports and the photos turned out great. I can't wait to shoot their wedding next summer at Harvest on Hudson in Westchester!

Here's the story of how Josh proposed... so sweet!

It was our 3 year anniversary and he took me out for a fancy dinner. I'll admit I had been dropping hints about getting married, but I wasn't expecting anything. We returned from dinner and I announced I was going to bed. Josh said he was going to stay up and keep packing (we were in the process of moving to a house). I fell asleep and then awoke an hour or two later to him getting in bed. He had left the hall light on and I kindly asked him to turn it off. He said that it was fine and we should just go to sleep - knowing that I'd never be able to sleep with a light on somewhere in our house. I grumpily stumbled out of bed and noticed that there was soft classical music playing and the dining room had been completely cleared of moving boxes. On the dining room table was a lamp with a ring underneath, next to a note that said "You Win". Needless to say I was in shock as well as half asleep! I almost thought I was dreaming. After I requested that he ask me the proper way, I of course said yes. I'm not sure how I eventually got back to sleep that night!

Jackson & Kasey

I was fortunate enough to meet & photograph two of the cutest, and most well-behaved twin boys a couple of weeks ago - Jackson and Kasey! I met their Mom and Dad, Tara & Kyle, when they were guests at Jessica & Steve's wedding in August - Kyle was the best man. We had a ton of fun in Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Oh and their Aunt was in the process of making them Elvis Presley costumes for Halloween, complete with Elvis glasses (which will explain the last photo!).

Karen and Ron got married!

Karen and Ron were married at City Hall Restaurant in New York City. First we hit up Gramercy Park for some portraits and then moved on to the streets of Tribeca before getting to the restaurant. The ceremony was beautiful and everyone had so much fun at the reception. Thanks to Jayd Gardina for second shooting with me! Congratulations Karen and Ron!

Gina & Ed took the leap!

I met Gina for the first time over the summer. She was reluctant to hire a photographer, but luckily her friends told her how she might regret that decision later. We met up a couple of months later to do their engagement shoot. I had so much fun with the two of them, I couldn't wait for the wedding. Gina and Ed had their intimate ceremony in the garden's at their apartment in Washington Heights, New York. What I didn't realize until I got there, was that they have an amazing view of the George Washington Bridge, the fall foliage just beyond the bridge and the water it crosses. Absolutely beautiful! After the ceremony, we headed down to the meatpacking district in Manhattan for some fun bride and groom portraits. The reception, which was an intimate dinner with close family and friends, was held at Gradisca Restaurant in New York City. Thanks so much to Shannon Cunningham for shooting with me! Shannon, you rock!

Lauren and Sergio

Lauren and Sergio were married at the beautiful and historic St. Patrick's Old Cathedral in Soho. They left plenty of time for us to do portraits, so we started in Soho in the area around the church and then walked the streets of Tribeca. I love love love all of these portraits. We had so much fun - Lauren and Sergio were up for anything - the pink horse was even their idea! They had a dinner at Savore Restaurant, so I stuck around for bit to capture everyone mingling and having a great time. Congratulations Lauren & Sergio, and thanks for an inspiring Saturday!

A few weeks ago, I shot Eileen and Brendan's wedding with Jennifer Davis. They were married at the beautiful Tarrytown House Estate in Westchester, NY.

Here are some details from their amazing, Irish themed day:

The funny thing about this day is that one of my good friends from college, Siobhan, was a guest. I hadn't seen her in years, and during group portraits, I noticed her hanging out on the side lines. I had a feeling I would run into someone I knew at some point while shooting - and I'm so excited that Siobhan and I are back in touch now.

Gina & Ed are engaged!

A few weeks ago, I met up with Gina and Ed at Fort Tryon Park here in NYC. Gina was worried about being in front of a camera, but she turned out to be a natural! It was great practice for their wedding day, which is coming up in a couple of weeks. They are such a great couple, who are obviously very much in love.

Here's the story of how they met in Ed's own words:
So my sister had another one of her improv performances in the West Village and since I had missed the last two, I really had to go this one. Afterwards, I tagged along as my sister and her friends headed to the bar around the corner. I met Gina when she moved in on my plate of Buffalo wings. As we devoured the plate, we talked about my recent trip to Italy and her relatives there. We flirted for a while, but when I walked her to the subway and sneaked a kiss at the turnstile, I knew she was something special.

And here's how they got engaged, as told by Gina:
In December 2007, we really needed a break from New York City and headed down to Florida. We were sitting on the beach, when I noticed Ed fumbling around. I glanced over and shot him a “what are you doing?” face as he got down on one knee. And when he said, “Gina, will you be my wife?” I was so stunned that I just kept repeating “Are you serious?” Ed looked concerned as he assured me that he was. I smiled, got a bit misty eyed and said, “Yeah! Of course I’ll marry you!”

Anne & Carl

Anne and Carl are the amazing couple who adopted my 8 year old cat, Zoey, last summer. I found out I was allergic, and they quickly came to the rescue! I couldn't ask for more loving & caring parents for my fat ex-kittie. Here's a photo of her from about 2 years ago...

So here's Anne & Carl's story in Annes' own words:

"We met in 2003 at Wesleyan University, where we were members of the Anthony Braxton Ensemble, Carl as bass-player and college freshman and me as a singer and prospective graduate student. We had our eyes on each other from the beginning, but Carl was a shy 19-year-old and was a little intimidated by me; I was kind of flashy at 27, and I assumed Carl probably found me obnoxious. When we finally started dating 2 years later, Carl and I quickly fell in love, and on October 15, 2005, he presented me with a touching letter about how much I meant to him. When I was finished reading it, and had already melted into tears of happiness, Carl said, "So, Anne, will you marry me?" To which I replied (practically sobbing now!) "Yes! I'll marry you good!" We called our parents to share the news and then went out for an ice cream sundae. The next day, we spent our first day as an engaged couple at Storm King Sculpture Park in upstate NY. Later that week, we picked out my amazing fire-opal engagement ring, a unique mid-century estate piece."

They were actually married August 12th, 2006. Anne and Carl had decided not to hire a wedding photographer. Though an art photographer friend of theirs took lots of great pictures, they didn't end up with any portraits of just the two of them. So…they came to Central Park two years later to have them taken! Anne says it was fun walking around Manhattan dressed for a wedding, and they found it amusing to receive so many congratulations and wishes of good luck from passersby…already having two wonderful years of marriage under their belts!

Maine & George Clooney (the dog)

My husband and I and our dog, George Clooney the French Bulldog, took a little mini-vacation this past weekend. We visited his family up in Maine and spent a few days at his Mom's cabin, which is located in West Gardiner, Maine. It was so beautiful and peaceful - I finally had a few days to relax! Thankfully, the family tolerates and some (Teagan) even love having their pictures taken. Teagan, my brother-in-law, that's his tattooed arm, was a little upset he hadn't done his hair for the photos, but he posed anyway!

Here are the details of the cabin...

This was a during a cribbage match between my Mother-in-Law, Cheryl, and Teagan. They wouldn't explain to me how to play cribbage, they said it was too confusing, but that once you learn, it's easy. Either way, I still don't know how to play.

And finally, here are some pictures of our dog, George. We adopted him back in March and since then, I've been meaning to post about him. He's almost 8 months old now and is so well-behaved, and so damn cute. Josh and I are just so in love with the little guy.

Jessica & Steve

Jessica and Steve were married at the Prospect Park Picnic House in Brooklyn. Their ceremony, performed by Reverend Mary Jane Weiss, was held just outside the Picnic House on the South Lawn of the park. The morning brought heavy rain and thunder, so we weren't sure if the ceremony was going to be outside. But by the afternoon, the sun peaked out and stayed out. All the finger crossing actually worked! One of the coolest details of their day was the bluegrass band, who played the music for both the ceremony and reception. There was spoon, washboard and even saw playing involved. The band was amazing!

Karen & Ron engaged!

Karen and Ron are getting married this October and I can't wait for their wedding day. Here's Karen and Ron's engagement story in Karen's own words:

"We got engaged while on vacation in February. We took a sunset cruise on Valentine's day, but it was really windy so the boat was getting knocked around a lot and I wasn't feeling well. He started to propose but I stopped him because it wasn't the right moment - I didn't want to forever associate our engagement with being seasick! A couple of days later we had breakfast delivered to our room and he proposed again. Of course I said yes. :)"

Even though the heat was almost unbearable this past weekend, we still had a lot of fun! We started in Gramercy Park. My idea was to walk down to Union Square, and since it was still kind of early, maybe it'd be empty, but no... the Farmer's Market was in full swing, so we kept on going. We continued on to Washington Mews down by NYU and Washington Square Park.

Tara & Conor are getting married!

Last Sunday, I took Tara and Conor to the famed Meatpacking district here in NYC for their engagement shoot. I asked Tara to tell me a little bit about how Conor proposed, thinking I'd share the story myself, but instead here it is in Tara's own words:

"Conor and I were planning on taking a walk and then going to dinner but there were terrible thunderstorms that day. The rain stopped just long enough for us to make it to our neighborhood bar, Trailer Park, and then there was more rain. We stayed there for about an hour, had some beers and tater tots and waited for the rain to stop. Once the rain let up, we took a walk to Chelsea Piers and went out on one of the piers. As I was pointing to a large rain cloud saying that we should leave, I turned around and he was on his knee and asked me to marry him. Later that night we had a romantic dinner at the restaurant where we had our first date. It was the best day ever!!!"

Heather & Mike

Heather and Mike were married at The Library Hotel in Manhattan. Strangely enough, the hotel is right down the street from the NY Public Library... so we walked down the block and captured some great portraits on the way. Their reception followed at Astra, which is located in the D&D Building and has a beautiful view of the city and the Queensboro Bridge. Things got a little crazy toward the end of the night when Heather's Dad broke out the lawn mower. I tried to find a video that demonstrates the lawn mower, but nothing did his dance moves justice. You'll just have to see the pictures! Check them out in the SLIDESHOW!

Alexx & Julio - The Party

As promised, here is part 2 of Alexx & Julio's wedding celebration. They had their reception at a place I doubt I'll ever have the pleasure of shooting at again, Queens Theatre in the Park, which is located in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. It's surrounded by the amazing architecture of the 1964 World's Fair - you can see a video from the Fair here. I'd never been over to the park, only to the stadium for a baseball game or two. I highly recommend a visit if you're ever in the area.

Alexx & Julio started the party off with a parade. The two of them, along with friends and family members, marched into the theatre, singing and dancing. That followed by a special dance performance for Julio by Alexx. Later, Julio and his band performed Chan Chan by The Buena Vista Social Club -- which is the song you'll hear in the slideshow. Some of their friends danced for them, one you'll see is a Mime, who's performance incorporated some great images of Alexx & Julio. Alexx's Dad even brought tears to his own eyes by showing images of Alexx growing up. And later, an impromtu performance of Thriller broke out when the song came on.

This party was so much fun. I loved being able to be a part of it and watch all of these amazingly talented people come together to show Alexx & Julio how much they are truly loved.

Alexx and Julio are a beautiful, creative couple who split their wedding festivities into two days. This is part one - the ceremony. It took place on the rooftop of their amazing Long Island City apartment. Alexx and Julio had only their closest friends and family surrounding them in a circle creating an even more intimate setting. It was such a moving ceremony and so unique to them. I had an amazing time shooting it. Thanks to Shannon Cunningham for helping me out!

Robin & Scott

Robin and Scott are so adorable. They truly are in love with each other -- you can just see it oozing from their photos... Their traditional Jewish ceremony was held just after sundown at Bayard's in downtown Manhattan, and their reception followed there in the beautiful Marine Room. We were just about to go outside for some bride & groom portraits with NYC as the backdrop, when the sky opened up and told us we had to go back inside. Despite the rain, and later, the thunder & lightening, their wedding day was absolutely beautiful. I had such a great time with them. Many thanks to my amazing second shooter, Jayd Gardina!

Deneen & Dwine

Deneen & Dwine were married last weekend by Jewelnel Davis, the University Chaplain, at St. Paul's Chapel at Columbia University on possibly one of the hottest days of the year. They both braved the outdoors for a few quick portraits, but their family & friends ran for air conditioning! The reception followed at Terrace In the Sky, which has amazing views of the city. Despite the heat, Deneen and Dwine were all smiles and you could really feel how much they were loved by everyone in the room. And many thanks to the amazing Jayd Gardina who shot with me all day.

Two weekends ago, Jordan Van Aken brought me along to help shoot on Wendy & Jered's wedding. The ceremony was held at the Irvington Presbyterian Church in the beautiful town of Irvington, NY. The reception followed at Tappan Hill Mansion.

A few weeks back I shot with the amazingly talented Julia Newman. Christine and David were married at St. Joseph's church on the Upper East Side. Their reception was at the Midtown Executive Club.

A few weeks back I shot the wedding of Linda & John with Jen Davis. Their ceremony was at St. Paul's church on the Columbia University Campus. It's a beautiful, old church. The reception followed at Studio 450, which is a big empty white loft space that you can do anything with. Linda & John's details look like they came right out of a magazine. I had so much fun photographing Dorothy & Tom's wedding! After meeting up with them while they were getting ready, my talented and lovely second shooter, Jordan Van Aken, and I were off to the Church of the Transfiguration in the heart of Chinatown, NYC. Afterwards, Dorothy & Tom let me drag them out into the crowded streets of Chinatown to grab a few portraits. I couldn't pass up such a great backdrop! And luckily Tom kept Dorothy laughing the entire time. Their reception was in Rye, NY at The Wainwright House, which is a beautiful mansion on the water.

Vicki & Michael, 4.21.08

Saturday turned out to be a gorgeous day for Vicki & Michael's wedding. I met up with Michael & his best man, Bobby, who also happens to be his brother, at The Ravel Hotel in Long Island City. After hanging with them for an hour, we were on our way to St. Cecilia's Church in Brooklyn. The church & ceremony were both beautiful. Then we were off to The Foundry in Long Island City to party! It was such a fun day! Congratulations Vicki & Michael! And thanks to the talented Jennifer Davis for having me along.

Laura and Jason took the plunge! After I met them and their family & friends at their apartment, our first stop was Brooklyn Bridge Park for portraits, but with the wind and close to freezing temperatures, none of us lasted too long. But Laura was a trooper and we managed to grab a few shots before running for shelter! The ceremony & reception were both held at Giando on the Water in Williamsburg Brooklyn with an amazing view of the city! Many thanks to the amazing Jayd Gardina who shot alongside me all day!

Marietta is just about 8 months pregnant and about ready to be done with the whole thing too, but luckily we had a beautiful Sunday afternoon to capture her and her belly. We did the shoot at an apartment in Manhattan and up on the roof there. Bert, the Daddy-to-Be, jumped in for a few pictures too. Enjoy!

I know this isn't a traditional maternity portrait, but I couldn't resist -- and I absolutely love it!

I had the pleasure of shooting with Jordan Van Aken a few weeks ago... Sara & Mick got married at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford, Connecticut. The church was so beautiful. The celebration continued at The Bond Ballroom just down the street. You can tell how truly in love the bride and groom are from the photos. About two months ago, my husband I took a driving tour around Ireland. We saw almost the entire island and found some places we love! I've been meaning to post some of the images, but life seemed to get in the way, until now. The portraits are the owners of the bed and breakfasts we stayed in. They were all lovely people!

Mia and Scott got married at the beautiful Maritime Hotel in New York City. I had the pleasure of second shooting with Christopher Duggan of Threshold Visions. We had a great day with an amazing couple! They were so laid back and a lot of fun!

Jennifer Davis and I were off to our second wedding that weekend -- Emily and Casey got married in Chappaqua, NY at Crabtree's Kittle House. It was such a beautiful day to have the ceremony outside! Check out some pictures from the day...

Chase, his owner Dana and I had a fun time last weekend trying to get the doggie to sit still! It was much more difficult than I thought it would be! Every time I got close to Chase with the camera, he ran in the opposite direction. Luckily we were able to tempt him with treats and promises of the dog park... Here are a few from the shoot:

Thanks to Rob Munroe for having me second shoot with him. Rob is not only a great person, he's also an amazing Photographer. Check out his site and blog. Nichole and Kevin got married at the gorgeous Marble Collegiate Church in New York City. Their reception followed right across the street at the Midtown Loft and Terrace. I loved working with Rob and I had a great time photographing Nichole, Kevin and all their guests. I know I have a lot of photos posted here, but there were so many I liked, I couldn't narrow it down!

I worked with Jennifer Davis to capture Laura and Daniel's wedding. They got married on the River Rose cruise ship on the Hudson River. It was a beautiful day. Everyone had a great time as we sailed down the Hudson. Here are some pictures from the day:

Today I had the pleasure of assisting Joyce George on Michele and Evan's wedding in Long Island. The reception was held at The Riviera in Massapequa. Their website doesn't do the place justice! Everything was so beautiful.

I was lucky enough to photograph Jill and Dave's reception in Mystic, CT the other weekend. They tied the knot in Florida at Disney a few weeks earlier, but since some of their friends and family couldn't make the trip, they held a reception at the Seamen's Inne at the Mystic Seaport so they could celebrate with everyone when they returned! Everyone had a fantastic time and I had so much fun photographing them! Here are just a few of the good ones:

Tara Hallowell and her family gave me the opportunity to do a family portrait for them this past weekend. The shoot was at her Aunt Patty's house in Nanuet, NY.

They're giving her grandparents a portrait of all 17 of them for their 50th wedding anniversary... They are an amazing family! Here's a sneak preview from the shoot:

Half way through the day, her grandparents suddenly "dropped by" and we all had to run like the wind to hide in the basement! Here's a quick shot of everyone huddled into a corner:

Margaret and Stephen, 3.24.07

Saturday I had another adventure with wedding photographer, Jennifer Davis. I was assisting her on Margaret & Stephen's wedding. The ceremony was held in a beautiful church, St. Francis Xavier in the Park Slope area of Brooklyn.

Before the ceremony, Jennifer and I spent time with the bride as she got ready.

That's the bride's mother, Bozena, on the left and the make-up/hairstylist on the right.

Jennifer took the bride, her mother and her maid of honor outside to do some portraits, while I hustled on to the church with most of the equipment and the men's boutonniere's... I got there while the florist was still setting up the flowers.

Here are some shots of the ceremony.

This little boy was so adorable. He was flipping through one of his books the entire ceremony!

Jen did some group photos outside of the church. There was one big one where all the guests crowded onto the church's front steps. And she did a few with the bride and groom and their immediate family.

Then we were on to the next stop -- the reception! Everyone took cars into Tribeca to a restaurant called Bouley.

The bride and groom are wonderful people, so friendly and caring. I wish them the best in their marriage and the journey life will take them on.

Yesterday I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to assist Jennifer Davis on a wedding at the Glenn Foerd Mansion in Pennsylvania. The location was beautiful. The interior is furnished with antiques and is full of detail. A great backdrop for a beautiful wedding.

When we arrived, we quickly got our equipment into the room that we shared with the coats and the nice coat check lady. After doing a quick walk through of the grounds, the bride, Kim, arrived. The next thing I knew, Jennifer and I were taking photos of the girls getting ready and Jennifer's second shooter, Jordan Van Aken, was downstairs snapping shots of the groom, Rob, and the rest of the guys.

I'm excited to learn from Jennifer -- she knows exactly what she's doing and she gets amazing results! The best thing about having her as a mentor is that she's completely willing to answer any question I have. She's a great teacher and even offered to go through some of the shots she took and talk about what she did with each shot.

The whole time I was using Jennifer's Canon 20D with my 50mm 1.4 lens. For the most part, I got to shoot throughout the entire wedding. Here's a shot of the bride and groom right after they were married:

While everyone was out on the dance floor, I was color correcting some selected images and putting them together in a slide show on Jen's laptop. The guests loved being able to see some of the shots before they left the party.

The bride and groom left the wedding in a sea of sparklers. One nice guest helped me up onto the railing so I could get some shots above the crowd...

The day was very successful. I learned that I need a wide angle lens. Well, I probably don't need it, but I found myself wanting to get that angle in a few instances.

I'm assisting Jennifer again on the 24th and 31st of March, so check back to see what I've been up to!
